The Yamaha MT-09SP has been enhanced for 2024, with new tech, new suspension, and new brakes all aimed at making it more formidable.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the popular three-cylinder MT-09, Yamaha has given the platform a makeover with sharper bodywork.
Both the standard MT-09 and the higher-spec SP get the new Yamaha Ride Control system, which combines the various electronic aids and aims to give users more customization options with the settings.
The SP version gets an array of “Track” modes that allows riders to set up to four custom groups of settings for specific circuits. The Track modes also allow for more refinement of the electronic rider aids.
Also new is a 5-inch colour TFT display, with the SP getting a dedicated Track theme, and extra functions like a lap timer.
Yamaha has fitted the MT-09SP with new Brembo Stylema monobloc brakes which are lighter, more rigid, and designed for enhanced control in braking input.
Also exclusive to the SP is the premium KYB fork and Ohlins monoshock. The fork is finished in gold DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) and offers full adjustability for preload, rebound, and compression dampening. The shock is also fully adjustable for compression and rebound, while a remote preload adjuster allows for quick and easy changes.
Another new feature is the Smart Key System, which is a keyless system that uses a fob to turn the bike on and off, and also lock and unlock the fuel cap.
To top it all off, the MT-09SP also comes in a R1M-inspired colour scheme and finish. Local pricing and availability is yet to be announced by Yamaha Motor Australia.
