Yamaha MT-03 launches, but not here

The MT-03 single-cylinder concept bike from the Milan Show of 2003 has finally seen light of day in the metal, and is being built by Yamaha's Italian plant.

Launched recently in Europe, the machine was originally penned by the company satellite GK Design and will not be coming to Australia.

Under the failry radical skin – which remains remarkably true to the original concept machine – is a version of the engine used in the XT600. This one is down a little in power and torque, claiming 44hp at 6000rpm and 56Nm at 5250rpm. Final gearing has been shortened to liven up the acceleratrion and the bike is said to be a dream handler.

Dry weight is a claimed 173kg and the bike, which has a 15 litre fuel tank, has a top speed of around 165km/h.
