Yamaha MT-03 coming to Oz
The machine, which has been around since 2006, will now expand Yamaha's MT range Down Under. It will sell for an intro price of $9999 -- with a short-term sweetenerThe LAMS-approved Yamaha MT-03 is coming to Australia, at an introductory price of $9999 – and Yamaha Motor Australia is also covering all on-road costs until September 25, 2013. It will join the MT-01 in Yamaha’s local MT line-up.
Yamaha calls the MT-03 a ‘roadster-motard’, and says that it’s the “mechanical embodiment and expression of Kodo, a word which means not only heartbeat or pulse, but also a pulsating drum beat that appeals directly to human sensuality”.
The MT-03 uses the same four-valve, SOHC powerplant as the XTZ660 Tenere, among other Yamahas, and it has an underseat exhaust system. Viewed from the rear, the system appears as dual mufflers, but they are in fact connected, and each muffler is protected by a resin shield for passenger comfort.
Other features include:
- A tubular steel diamond truss-type frame;
- Lateral rear suspension system as first seen on the MT-01 concept bike;
- One-piece cast aluminium swingarm;
- 43mm forks;
- 15-litre fuel tank;
- Five-spoke 17-inch wheels;
- Dual 298mm front discs with twin-piston calipers;
- 245mm rear disc; and
- 805mm seat height.
Wet weight is 192.4kg, and colours are Competition White or Midnight Black.
Yamaha has also created a range of ‘urban attack’ accessories range including a fly screen, skid plate, hand guards, radiator cover, single seat cover, engine guards and roller protectors. And the MT-03 tuning line includes an Akrapovic slip-on muffler.
