Yamaha's 2011-spec YFM450FA Grizzly Auto 4x4 ATV has gone on sale, the comprehensive revision seeing the model shed a hefty 10kg. The weight saving has been achieved through the use of a lighter one-piece frame, a new AC generator assembly and lighter Maxxis tyres, while the model's wet brake assembly has also been redesigned, as has its rear gear assembly. Yamaha says the changes add up to a more comfortable, agile riding experience.
Powered by a carburetted 421cc, liquid-cooled, SOHC, single-cylinder engine, the model has many of the features of its bigger Grizzly 550 and Grizzly 700 brothers, including independent four-wheel suspension, with 275mm of ground clearance. The power is dished out through Yamaha's Ultramatic transmission, which maintains belt tension in the centrifugal auto clutch for reduced wear and enhanced longevity. The three-position On-Command In/Out feature allows the rider to switch from 2WD to limited-slip 4WD at the push of a button, while an override mode sees the engine harness higher revs in full diff-lock mode.
The YFM450FA Grizzly Auto 4x4 quad is priced at $12,599, while the YFM450FAP version, with electronic power steering, is priced at $12,999. See your nearest Yamaha dealer
