Yamaha is celebrating 60 years of grand prix participation by adorning three models with a red and white livery that evokes the halcyon days of road racing.
The iconic livery will be applied to the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R3, the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 and the 2022 Yamaha YZF-R1, allowing customers to relive the days of Yamaha racing legends like Giacomo Agostini, Kenny Roberts, Wayne Rainey, Bill Ivy, and Phil Read.
Yamaha’s Grand Prix story began at the French Grand Prix in 1961. The red and white colour scheme made its debut in 1964, and that livery would become synonymous with Yamaha – not just in road racing, but also motocross.
In Japanese culture, 60th anniversaries are highly regarded – even more so than 50th anniversaries – meaning that Yamaha is placing high importance on this unique special edition models.
As well as the unique colour scheme, the World GP 60th Anniversary models will also feature gold wheels, gold forks, Yamaha factory race-bike gold tuning fork emblem, black levers and special commemorative badging on the airbox cover.
The bikes are otherwise unchanged, with the all-new 2022 Yamaha YZF-R7 set to joine the YZF-R3 and the ever-popular YZF-R1.
Local pricing for the YZF-R7 starts at $13,999 ride away, with the WGP 60th model checking in at $14,999 ride away. It is due to arrive in December 2021. The 2022 YZF-R3 is not expected to arrive in Australia until April next year, with pricing also to be advised. The 2022 YZF-R1 starts at $28,149 ride away, while the WGP model is $29,149 ride away.
