Yamaha has officially joined the e-bike ranks in Australia, confirming its first model will hit existing motorcycle dealer showrooms from May.
The Yamaha YDX Moro 07 was presented to Australian media for the first time this week and is described as the Japanese manufacturer as an ‘all-mountain’ eMTB offering.
It is priced from $8999 ride-away.

Boasting a twin-spar alloy frame and an electric motor both developed in-house by Yamaha Motor Corporation, the YDX Moro 07 – whose name loosely translates to ‘mountain on the moon’ in Japanese – is set be the first of many e-bike offerings from Yamaha.
Speaking at this week’s launch event, Yamaha Motor Australia marketing manager Sean Goldhawk hinted additional e-bike options were coming from the manufacturer, opening the door to even a more hard-core downhill e-bike.
“We’re not announcing anything yet but this is the tip of the iceberg but we will be announcing new models. We don’t want the dealers to sit there with one model,” he said.
“This thing is designed to be modular, so you can add more models as you like. But we don’t want to talk about them today.”

Yamaha is aiming for carbon neutrality as a manufacturer by 2050, and sees e-bikes as a critical pathway to arrive there.
Although this is new territory in Australia, Yamaha says it has been developing and producing electric motors for bicycles (known as Power Assist Systems in Yamaha speak) for more than 30 years.
