The sixth round of the 2010 Superbike World Championship takes place in South Africa, at the Kyalami racetrack, but before racing began a handful of riders had the rare chance to check out the epicentre of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals.
Riders such as Jonathan Rea, Cal Crutchlow, Michel Fabrizio, Carlos Checa, Tom Sykes, Max Biaggi and Australia's own Troy Corser had the good fortune to walk on the hallowed turf of the Soccer City Stadium, near Johannesburg, a clever ploy designed to promote FIFA and WSBK.
The World Superbike riders had a "kick-about" with South African football star Shaun Bartlett, and there were also photo opportunities. It seems fairly evident that Max Biaggi had a good time with the mascot -- what a grin!
The riders were shown around the massive 90,000 capacity stadium that will eventually fill up with angry soccer hooligans, intent on rioting when their team loses, but attention for the riders has now turned to the weekend's race.
With Troy Corser's historic podium finish, the first for BMW in WSBK, he'll no doubt be pushing hard for a top five finish on the tricky racetrack. Check out our WSBK race preview for more details on the state of play in the 2010 Superbike World Championship.
