World's most expensive Vespa scooter is headed for Australia

The exlusive and expensive Vespa 946 Christian Dior scooter is limited to just 946 units worldwide

A collaboration between iconic Italian brand Vepsa and high-end Parisian fashion house Dior has resulted in the most expensive Vespa scooter in the company’s recent history.

Priced at $36,000 ride away, the Vespa 946 Christian Dior edition scooter is set to arrive in Australia in extremely limited numbers – so limited, in fact, that a Vespa Australia spokesperson said you could “probably count them on one hand.”

The special-edition model will be limited to just 946 units worldwide (hence the name), with bikesales guessing that most will likely remain in Europe.

Both Vespa and Dior were founded in 1946, and the collective attention-to-detail, dedication, and style has resulted in the new special-edition model designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior’s women’s collection.

Based on the Vespa 946 that was launched in 2012, the new Christian Dior version features custom Dior graphics and aesthetic details, as well as a unique suspended seat. Each unit also comes with a welcome kit that includes a book detailing the history of the collaboration. One of the most striking features is the unique Dior shopping bag hook.

The scooter features a monocoque body made of sheet steel with aluminium elements, a 150cc 3V engine with electronic fuel injection, 220mm dual disc brakes with ABS, and 12-inch wheels. It also has LED lighting and a full LCD multi-purpose dashboard.

For the lucky few that do manage to get their hands on one of the Vespa 946 Christian Dior models, they will almost certainly have a future collectible on their hands. While Vespa Australia couldn’t confirm how many units will be available in Australia, it did indicate that some, if not most, are already sold.
