Discussions are underway about Australia hosting a round of the World Outdoor Trials Championship.
The Trials Club of Victoria, which is behind the audacious bid, has already submitted a submission to Motorcycling Australia (MA) on the proposed event, but has now been 'encouraged' by the governing body's board to come back with a more detailed plan.
According to the February board minutes, that's yet to happen, although in the interim an expression of interest will be lodged at the FIM by MA.
Colin Scott, who is active in the Trials Club of Victoria, also sits on the MA Moto Trials Commission.
The Trials World Championship first began in 1964, and is a predominantly European-based calendar. Of the seven rounds in 2009, only one will be held outside Europe, at Twin Ring Motegi in Japan.
The championship has been dominated by British and Spanish personnel since its inception.
The last big moto trials event in Australia was the International Two Day Super Trial, held at Sedgwick, near Bendigo (Vic) in late 2005.
The winner, Briton Sean Morris, is now a permanent fixture in the world title, as is his countryman James Dabill, who finished third.
Although it hosted a star-studded cast, the two day trial was an expensive exercise for the private promoter, and it was culled after just one year.
