The Australian Supercross Championship will return to Wollongong in November, as the 2024 series continues to take shape.
WIN Stadium will host the second round of the championship on November 2, with the venue’s central and seaside location providing a spectacular backdrop for the on-track action. The stadium is home to the St George-Illawarra Dragons NRL team and sits in close proximity to public transport, hotels, bars, and restaurants.
National level supercross was last seen in the Illawarra in 2019, when CDR Yamaha’s Luke Clout raced to victory at WIN Stadium ahead of Daniel Reardon and Justin Brayton.
“We’ve always had strong support in New South Wales,” said Championship Director, Kelly Bailey. “We anticipate Wollongong also delivering a significant level of support given the large moto community within the Illawarra and surrounding regions.”
Destination Wollongong General Manager, Mark Sleigh, is also excited about the event returning to the Illawarra.
“Wollongong is thrilled to welcome back the Australian Supercross Championship,” he said. “Watching the nation’s best riders and some international superstars in our iconic WIN Stadium by the sea. Why not stay a little longer and enjoy our beautiful region.”
The round will take on a Triple Crown format, with championship points on offer for each of the three main even races.
Kayo Stadium in Redcliffe, Queensland, was recently announced as the host of the opening round of the Australian Supercross Championship.
The remaining two locations are yet to be announced, but there is a possibility that Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium could host the finale under the AUS-X Open banner.
