The 2010 Commonwealth Games is nearly over for another four years, and the next time it reconvenes in 2014 Glasgow will be the host.
But we’re unlikely to come across the rich vein of advertising signage in Scotland as what we have in India over the last two weeks.
From our armchairs, the two signs that have dominated the advertising hoardings at most of the venues are ‘Indian Railways’ and ‘Hero Honda Hunk’.
Indian Railways is a behemoth, and apparently employs over one million people (who would want to be a payroll officer at that place?), but we were a little lost as to the origin of Hero Honda Hunk.
We know that Hero Honda is a joint venture between Indian Hero Motors and Honda dating back to the mid 1980s, but what about the Hunk part?
Has a crooner from Bollywood joined the Hero team, or maybe Aussie cricket heart throb Brett Lee is on the payroll? Well, it’s a lot more prosaic than that, as it turns out the Hunk is a 150cc air-cooled ‘premium’ four-stroke launched in 2007, featuring a gas-charged adjustable dual shocks, a disc front brake, 18-inch wheels, and performance figures of 14hp and 12Nm.
The Hunk is one of 16 bikes in the Hero line-up, and is available in kick or self (electric) start.
So there you go: the Bikesales Network’s far-reaching Commonwealth Games report. And apparently Australia won some gold medals along the way.
