Whitsunday Raceway and Driver Education

A new 1.1km asphalt facility for north Queensland, which is set to really get the supermoto and road racing set excited

Australia’s former MotoGP and world Superbike winner Chris Vermeulen is today cutting the first laps on a brand new motorsport and training facility in Proserpine (Qld).

The Whitsunday Raceway and Driver Education Training Facility opens after six years of toil by the local Whitsunday Motorsports Club.

The facility will take on a multi-purpose role and, as well as a training and community precinct, will also host motorcycle racing events, with the 1.1km layout in particular a natural fit for supermoto and junior classes.

As well as Vermeulen, a number of supermoto riders are also taking part in today’s grand opening, with the club eager to get the green light for competition from Motorcycling Queensland as soon as possible.

The Whitsunday Raceway and Driver Education Training Facility is located on Lascelles Road, en route to the Whitsunday Coast Airport.
