New Zealander Jake Whitaker has snapped the phenomenal winning streak of Colin Zarczynski to claim his first Australian Moto Trial Championship, held in Mount Tamborine (Qld) on August 21-22.
Already in the lead after day one, the 19-year-old then produced a stunning first lap on Sunday, which put him into a commanding position.
From that point he just held his ground as he claimed the championship from locals Neil Price and Zarczynski, who will now head to Poland with the Australian team for the Trial des Nations.
Zarczynski had been the Australian moto trials champion since 2004.
"It's a bloody good feeling!" Whitaker said.
"I've wanted this title for about four years now so it's a really good feeling.
"On Sunday, I felt way more comfortable on the bike than I did on Saturday, and I really enjoyed it out there."
ACT rider Michelle Coleman won the women's event.
The Australian Championship will be followed up with a trial in Esk (Qld) on August 25, and an Arena Showcase event at
Carrara (Qld) on August 28-29 as part of 'Trials Week'.
