Featuring 10-foot long forks topped off with apehanger handlebars, this motorcycle inspired drum kit could well be a world first.
While it's owner, Mike Mesey of the band American Greed, will get plenty of use out of the custom drum kit, there are motorcyclists (some in this office) who are lamenting the use of such components on a drum kit.
The chopper-inspired drum kit makes use of several motorcycle parts, and was created with the help of Cutting Edge Cycles in Missouri. But as Cutting Edge Cycles' Mark Siddle explained, the custom shop has never built anything like this before.
"We had never built a chopper as a drum set before, but we’re always doing fabrication for motorcycles so this was a fun project. We just made up the rear section, got the parts together and built our own frame," said Siddle.
Titanium Zildjian symbols hang off each of the handlebars, while the rear end of a motorcycle has been incorporated into the seat for the drummer, complete with a full rear fender. And how's this: A pair of six-foot tall tail pipes are aimed towards the heavens and have been designed to disperse fog. Or flames. Rock on!
The Bikesales Network has been so inspired by the chopper drumkit concept, there is talk of a new project to turn a Suzuki Bergman in a giant glockenspiel.
