West to race in Sepang WorldSBK
Will replace Frenchman Sylvain Barrier on the Pedercini KawasakiAustralia's Ant West will make his world superbike (WorldSBK) debut at Sepang this weekend, drafted into the Pedercini Kawaski squad as a replacement rider for injured Frenchman Sylvain Barrier.
WorldSBK is the last world championship frontier for the 34-year-old Queenslander — in a road racing sense — after having previously competed in MotoGP, Moto2, 500 GP, 125 GP, 250 GP, supersport and endurance. WorldSBK will make it the eighth and final 'frontier'.
West began the season as a wildcard in WorldSSP at Phillip Island, finishing in an excellent third place. He then crashed in practice at the Assen round of that championship and broke his hand, but he now returns to the production-based paddock in the premier class on a ZX-10R.
Barrier also broke his hand in the MotorLand Aragon round three of the WorldSBK title.
West will get his first taste of the Pedercini Kawasaki this Friday, May 13 in opening practice. Kawasaki's world champion Jonathan Rea leads the championship on 221pts ahead of Ducati's Chaz Davies (186), who won both races in the last round at Imola.
