West stripped of Moto2 results

Aussie Moto2 racer Anthony West has been stripped of 18 months' worth of results for doping
Following an appeal made by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Australian Moto2 racer Anthony West has been stripped of all racing results for 18 months from the date of the sample that tested positive for a banned substance collected on May 20, 2012.
In that sample West tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a stimulant, and was duly suspended for one month by the FIM International Disciplinary Court. West said he’d been careless and had not fully checked the ingredients in an energy drink, Mesomorph, he’d consumed.
However, WADA appealed to the CAS against the FIM’s penalty on October 2, 2012, requesting that the FIM’s decision be annulled and replaced with the maximum penalty of a two-year period of ‘ineligibility’.
The matter was referred to a panel of CAS arbitrators, who met in late August, 2013, to examine the issue. According to a CAS press release, they heard that West had “purchased, prepared, and consumed [the energy drink] on the assumption that it did not contain any prohibited substances since it was purchased in a nutritional shop”.
Given West’s explanation, and the fact the substance in question provides only “short term effects which are not significant in competition”, the CAS panel opted to impose an 18-month period of ineligibility, less the one month suspension already served.
The decision strips the QMFF Racing rider of all results achieved in the 18 months from May 20, 2012, including his podium finish at the 2012 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and another podium finish in Malaysia at the previous round.
