According to a media release from the FIM, Australia’s Moto2 rider Anthony West failed an anti-doping test carried out at the French Grand Prix at Le Mans on May 20, and his sanctions include missing this year’s final round of the championship at Valencia from November 9-11.
West’s sample contained Methylhexaneamine, a substance included in ‘S.6b Specified Stimulants’ prohibited in competition, and thereby infringed Art 2.1 of the 2012 FIM Anti-Doping Code.
As a result, the FIM International Disciplinary Court has disqualified West from the French round of the Moto2 title and, in addition, has imposed a one-month ban from any meeting authorised or organised by the FIM or any FIM-affiliated federation or body from October 30, 2012 – taking him out of the equation for Valencia.
An appeal may be lodged with the International Tribunal of Appeal (TIA) within five days as from the notification of the decision.
West is just coming off two Moto2 podiums in succession, including a second place at Phillip Island last Sunday.
