The Melbourne-based Gas Imports has purchased the Wollongong-based Wayne Gardner Enterprises, the eponymous company of the 1987 world 500cc GP champion.
Gardner relocated his family to Spain in January, 2012 to provide his sons Remy and Luca the best opportunity to further their motorcycle racing careers. He has found it difficult to support his sons and manage the day-to-day operations of his motorcycle accessory and distribution business, so the decision was made to sell the 32-year-old concern. The financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
“This has been a tough decision, however I believe it is a very positive one for our customers, staff, suppliers and myself,” said Gardner. “Being so far away from the day-to-day operations of the business has made it very hard for me and my staff to effectively manage the business.
“I’m sad to leave such an important part of my life behind, but my focus in now on my kids and providing them with the best opportunity I possibly can. The support we’ve experienced from the industry over the many years of operation has been tremendous, and I hope the trade and consumers will continue to support the products we’ve proudly introduced and nurtured into the Australian market.”
GAS Imports will now represent Michelin in New South Wales, South Australia and the Northern Territory along with offering brands such as EBC brakes, Stomp Grip, Xena locks, PBR sprockets, Titax, Panolin oils and Go Chain Wax to add to its current product line-up of Michelin in Victoria and Queensland, Thor, Akrapovic, Icon, M-Tech, Spy, Moto Tassinari, Bazzaz, Brembo, Cosworth, Ballistic, Yuasa, Koyo, Pazzo Levers, Moto Concepts, and Engine Ice.
