Directed by Jeremy Sims, Wayne chronicles Gardner’s racing career, all the way from Wollongong to Monte Carlo – and how he conquered the world to become 500cc champion in 1987 and then tasted victory in the 1989 and 1990 Australian Grands Prix at Phillip Island – the first one firmly etched into the chronicles of Australian sporting history.

He also became a household name in Japan courtesy of his multiple victories in the Suzuka 8-Hour world endurance race.

In the 95-minute documentary, Gardner shares details of his professional and personal life, as do those who know or had known him – family, friends, sponsors, team mates and even rivals. There’s also an abundance of archival footage.

Wayne will also be shown at MIFF on August 5 before it begins screening all over Australia.
