Waters takes double, Herfoss moves into lead

Suzuki’s Josh Waters was in superb form on the new GSX-R1000R, while defending champion Troy Herfoss is looking ominous on his new Honda

Team Ecstar Suzuki’s Josh Waters powered to a superb clean sweep in round four of the 2017 Australian Superbike Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin on Sunday, July 9.

Aboard his all-new GSX-R1000, Waters won both races ahead of defending championship Troy Herfoss (Crankt Protein Honda Racing), while Wayne Maxwell (Yamaha Racing Team) and Bryan Staring (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) claimed the final spot on the respective podiums.

Like Waters, Herfoss and Staring were also aboard a new model in Darwin, the CBR1000RR SP2. Herfoss now leads the championship on 170pts ahead of Robbie Bugden (Kawasaki BCperformance, 157), previous pacesetter Daniel Falzon (JD Racing Yamaha, 155) and Maxwell (148). Waters is next on 131.

Staring and Budgen completed the top five in race one, and in the second battle — shortened after signage blew onto the circuit at turn five — privateer Corey Turner (Yamaha) and Bugden were fourth and fifth.

FULL RESULTS ACROSS ALL CLASSES

Round five of the championship will be held at Morgan Park Raceway (Qld) from August 25-27.
