Ward second in U21 world speedway title

The Aussie produced a superb final round, but he just feel short of winning three championships in a row
Just a day after he competed in the final round of the world open speedway title, Australian Darcy Ward has claimed silver in the 2011 FIM Under 21 Speedway World Championship.
Trailing leader Maciej Janowski by nine points heading into Sunday’s fourth and final round in Poland, Ward needed everything to go right for him to claim his third consecutive U21 world crown.
A 14pt performance, including a lap record-breaking heat six win, was just the tonic as Ward finished second in the final round, but still four shy of Janowski in the overall standings.
The silver earned by Ward was secured in the most thrilling off fashions, with the 19-year-old winning a race-off against Przemyslaw Pawlicki after the pair finished the four rounds level on points.
