Ward retains under 21 speedway title

But it wasn't a breeze for the world champion

Queenslander Darcy Ward has retained his Aussie under 21 speedway title at Olympic Park in Mildura (Vic), but it was far from a demolition job for the rider who currently holds the corresponding world title.

Ward was only the third qualifier into the final, but he rose to the occasion to win the big one from Justin Sedgmen, UK rider Josh Auty and leading qualifier Sam Masters.

The result completes a stunning domestic season for Ward, who was third in the recently competed senior title behind Chris Holder and Troy Batchelor.

Next up on the national speedway calendar are the under 16 and 350cc junior titles in Tamworth (NSW) from January 29-31.
