It's official: $A35,000 was raised in the recent #WALK4DARCY charity walk, which saw British speedway identity Steve Brandon and his son Jack complete a 320km journey from King’s Lynn to Cardiff from June 29 until July 8.
Most of the money was raised through the generous donations of fans, and will now primarily be used to set up a gym at Darcy’s house. Anything left over will help to fund the hand controls Darcy needs on his car, which will enable him to live more independently and get back into a regular routine.
“First of all, I just want to thank everybody who supported us during the walk, from the kind words of support, the people who said hello, those who joined us and of course for the generous donations we received," said Steve. “It was a big project logistically, and we must say a special thanks to the group of people who helped us with the costs and logistics.
"And also thanks to the four world champions and the team managers who supported us for the #FINAL1PERCENT: Tai Woffinden, Greg Hancock, Chris Holder, Gary Havelock, Mark Lemon, Neil Middleditch and Alun Rossiter.
“And for anyone else who I have forgotten to mention, a huge thank you.”
