Aiden Wagner will replace the injured Jamie Stauffer on the Team Honda CBR1000RR SP at round one of the Australasian Superbike Championship (ASC) in Sydney from March 27-29.
Stauffer sustained a pelvic injury at the world superbike round in February and, although his recovery has been positive, her still cannot race due to ongoing treatment of a blood clot and is now earmarking a return to racing at Mallala in May.
Stauffer's misfortune opens the door for Wagner, who was the 2014 ASC supersport champion and recently finished 13th in the world supersport round at Phillip Island.
“I am really excited to race with Team Honda Racing this weekend on the CBR1000RR SP," said Wagner. "It's a great opportunity for me to work with one of the most professional teams in Australia. I will have to find my feet a little on the superbike as I haven’t done much riding on a 1000cc bike, but I am totally up for the challenge and looking forward to the experience.
"Jamie is going to be there all weekend so I am sure he will be able to give me some tips and support me through the process.”
Wagner will be sitting alongside Troy Herfoss in the Team Honda garage at Sydney Motorsport Park, and Bikesales will run a full preview of the ASC opener later this week.
