Wagner to go world supersport full-time

The Queenslander will link up with an established Kawasaki team, complete with an Australian connection

Australia now has a second full-time rider in the 2015 Supersport World Championship, with Queensland young gun Aiden Wagner accepting an offer to join the Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres team for the remainder of the year.

Wagner will make his debut with the team at Imola from May 8-10, alongside his new teammates Patrick Jacobsen and Lucas Mahias. Jacobsen is currently running second in the title behind fellow Kawasaki rider Kenan Sofuoglu.

Wagner was in two minds about heading overseas after being offered a ride with Team Honda Racing in Australia for the remainder of the Australasian Superbike Championship after his brilliant race-winning rookie performance at Sydney Motorsport Park's round one as a fill-in for the injured Jamie Stauffer. But the lure of an overseas ride was just too much.
Aiden said: “It was a difficult decision to go overseas with such an attractive offer in Australia with Honda. However, after many sleepless nights I decided my future was overseas. This year will be a learning curve for me overseas, as I haven’t ridden any of the tracks.

“I am a bit nervous about going, but on the other hand really excited for the year ahead. I just want to say a big thanks to Paul and Laura Free from Team Honda Racing for the support and understanding they have shown.”

At Kawasaki Intermoto Ponyexpres, Wagner will link up with Australia's two-time world supersport champion Andrew Pitt, who is the team's sports director. Wagner's Aussie compatriot Glenn Scott also competes in the 2015 WSS title, on a Honda

Wagner competed as as wildcard in round one of the 2015 world supersport title at Phillip Island, and finished 13th on his Yamaha.
