VW pours cold water on bike plans

With his company humming along beautifully, the Volkswagen CEO doesn't want to add motorcycles to his portfolio -- at least in the medium term

It’s official – the Volkswagen Group, which includes fast growing care brands like Skoda, will not be adding powered two-wheelers to its portfolio – either by purchasing another brand or via organic growth.

The company’s CEO Martin Winterkorn confirmed as much in a recent interview with the European-based Autonews.com.

"Motorcycles are without question beautiful objects. But there are no plans to enter this line of business,” Winterkorn said.

For the past half-a-dozen years, it has been rumoured that Volkswagen has been interested in developing a range of motorcycles, with its $2.5 billion purchase of Suzuki shares (20 per cent of the company) in 2009 hinting at the German company's intent.
