Voxan survives

French motorcycle company Voxan has been bought by Venturi, who has plans to develop electric motorbikes

We've reported on quirky French motorcycle maker Voxan before, in regards to its shaky financial situation after going into liquidation in 2009.

Well, we've got more news on the European company, but this time it's in a more positive vein – the company has been taken over by Venturi, which specialises in niche electric sports cars.

Voxan has traditionally used 996cc V-twin engines, but with Venturi as its new owner the French motorcycle brand could be headed in a new direction.

Because of Venturi's penchant for electric powertrains, the new parent company will push Voxan down a similar electric path, developing a range of designer electric motorcycles.

Monaco-based sports car maker Venturi released a statement saying:

Voxan will benefit from Venturi’s experience and expertise in spearhead technologies in order to differentiate itself from large industrial motorbike groups and become a viable business enterprise. The take-over will propel Voxan towards the future of mobility: the magnificent bikes it has produced until now will remain "collectors’ pieces", a strong image on which the brand will continue to rely in order to evolve towards electric propulsion.

Sport will still be a development area for Voxan, complemented by models intended for wider distribution.

Development of the first electric Voxan will take almost three years. It will ultimately be manufactured in the Group’s assembly plant at Sablé-sur-Sarthe.

The deal that has seen Venturi purchase all Voxan assets and intellectual property may have been helped along by the fact that Sacha Lakic has been the designer of both Venturi and Voxan vehicles.
