John Sample Automotive, the Australian importer of Aprilia motorcycles and scooters, has initiated a voluntary recall of the RSV4 R Factory superbike due to a "potential engine failure due to the identification of a batch of components that do not meet quality standards".
The recall relates to most of the bikes that were imported into Australia prior to December 31 last year. To that end, JSA has received a list of the bikes that are subject to the recall and has sent correspondence to both its customers and dealer network.
JSA will then implement a program to rectify all effected units. To pre-empt the formal recall announcement, the Aprilia factory in Italy is air-freighting a shipment of engines to Australia, which will arrive shortly.
The recall does not include the RSV4 R, which goes on sale in March for $23,990.
