In 2010, the Bikesales Network ran a yarn on Volta, a Spanish company which was about to release a new, edgy looking electric streetfighter called the EV-1.
Aimed primarily at urban commuters, the EV-1 has now been followed up by the BCN, which made its debut in two different guises – Sport and City -- at the recent EICMA motorcycle fair in Milan.
Really just the one platform with a few styling changes, the BCNs claim a top speed of 120km/h and a range of 70km from the 33hp (25kW), 67Nm DC electric motor. Its lithium polymer battery can be charged in two hours.
Seat height is 805mm for both BCNs, there’s LED lighting, hydraulic disc brakes (but no regenerative braking) and the bikes can wirelessly interact with a smart phone – but only via an optional tech pack.
According to Gizmag, the BCNs will be released in Europe in the second quarter of 2012 – Spain first cab off the rank. Price will be around the $9500 mark.
Australia? It’s unlikely we’ll be seeing it down under in the foreseeable future.
