Villopoto for AUS-X Open!
The four-time world supercross champion is coming out of retirement to contest the event in Sydney, where he will come up against his old foe in Aussie Chad ReedFour-time world supercross champion, American Ryan Villopoto, will make his return to supercross racing in Australia to contest the AUS-X Open at Qudos Bank Arena (formerly AllPhones) on November 12-13, 2016.
Villopoto will compete across both nights on a Kawasaki KX450F as he comes out of retirement to take on Australia's best, including Chad Reed. The event will be Villopoto’s only supercross appearance in 2016.
“I’m really excited to announce that I’ll be lining up behind a supercross gate again in Sydney, Australia, this November for the second AUS-X Open event!” said Villopoto. “Racing (against) Chad will be awesome. I think that not only will Australian fans be tuning in, but the world also.
"It’s a unique opportunity for supercross fans -- it’ll be a thing like, ‘cool, Chad’s there and so is Ryan – let's see how this pans out’ – which will be exciting.
"I’ve chosen the AUS-X Open event (to race at) because of the vibe. Obviously there are other races that are similar, however I generally looked at those as ‘headache’ events.
"The AUS-X Open seems a bit different; a lot more laid back and just a hell of a time."
Villopoto will also be joined by fellow American Cody Webb, who pushed Reed all the way in 2015.

As well as being a four-time AMA supercross champion, 27-year-old Villopoto, who lives in Washington, also won three motocross titles, and in 2015 he embarked on a world motocross campaign which was ultimately cut short by injury.
