One of the most-talked about motorcycles at present is the BMW S 1000 RR, the German company's attempt to usurp its Japanese rivals in the one-litre sportsbike class.
With early reports suggesting the bike is a bona-fide contender, it is evident that particular attention has been paid to the 999cc engine and this new video from BMW Motorrad USA provides an amazing look at the inner workings of its latest magnum opus.
The video is described by BMW Motorrad USA as "A rare technical video of the BMW S1000RR Superbike, showing valves operating in high rpm."
The video exposes the valves operating, along with the valve springs and rocker arms actuating, with the whole shebang beginning at idle.
As the revs rise, you can see oil squirting everywhere, and as the 14,200rpm approaches the valve springs appear to rotate around the stems as the camera stuggles to keep up with their ultra-fast movements. With the intensity of the rising engine speeds, the oil begins to vapourise as well.
Check out the images for detailed cut-aways of the engine and cylinder heads. But enough chin-wagging from me, here's the compelling footage:
