Polaris owned Victory has finally decided, a decade after launching in the USA, to distribute its product in Australia via a full owned subsidiary in the third quarter of 2008.
Peter Alexander, the Managing Director of Polaris locally, said: "Although there has been a great deal of interest in Australia for several years, we have taken our time to ensure we understand what Australian consumers want before we entered the market.
"We conducted significant research into market preferences and consumer needs in the heavy cruiser and touring market and found the Australian market is screaming out for genuine alternatives in these segments. We learnt that American motorcycles are highly desired but interestingly, a large segment of the market is looking for a fresh look and feel to such bikes.
The maker builds a modest range of large-capacity V-twins, featuring a mix or relatively traditional cruiser styling, along with an innovative cruiser and influences from designers such as Arlen Ness.
Prices in the USA start at US$16,000, though it's difficult to predict how that will translate over here, given the cost of setting up distribution and the volatile nature of the current exchange rate. (At the time of writing, US$16,000 translated to approx AU$16,600.)
As the specs sheet shown below for the base model Vegas reveals, the powerplant is a 1634cc V-twin that is shared across the range.
