Victoria Police launch Operation Amity

To be held over the Australia Day long weekend, with the "safety of motorcyclists" a major focus
Victoria Police has launched ' Operation Amity', which will see officers from both the state and local highway patrols out in force targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, distraction, fatigue, and seat belt offences.
The safety of motorcyclists will be a focus of Operation Amity after riders suffered a third of all the serious injuries recorded last Australia Day weekend.
“The majority of these injuries occurred on unsealed highways and dirt tracks and unfortunately we know the extent of off-road motorcycle trauma is higher than what is reported,” Assistant Commissioner Robert Hill said. “Two motorcyclists have been killed so far this year and neither was wearing a helmet. We are appealing for all riders to make sure they are taking all necessary safety precautions.”
Operation Amity will run from January 23-26.
