Vespa reveals GTS 300 anniversary model

Vespa has unveiled a limited-edition version of its flagship GTS 300 scooter to celebrate the brand's 80th anniversary, with Australian deliveries due to begin in September.

Based on the GTS Super Tech 300, the new Vespa GTS 300 80th Anniversary is priced from $15,390 rideaway and will be offered in limited numbers locally.

The anniversary edition commemorates eight decades since the first Vespa rolled out of Pontedera, Italy, on April 23, 1946. Originally developed as an affordable means of personal transport in post-war Italy, Vespa has since produced more than 20 million scooters across more than 160 model variants.

The GTS 300 80th Anniversary is distinguished by a unique Verde Pastello paint finish inspired by an historic green colour from the Piaggio archives. The colour extends to components including the mirrors, passenger grab handle, switchgear, shield trim and front suspension.

Other model-specific details include a handcrafted tone-on-tone seat, matching grips and floorboard inserts, while diamond-cut wheels reference the design of the original 1946 Vespa 98. Anniversary badging on the front shield marks the milestone.

The scooter retains the same specification as the GTS Super Tech 300, including a 4.3-inch TFT display with Vespa MIA smartphone connectivity, full LED lighting and keyless ignition.

Australian buyers will also receive a colour-matched top box, matching passenger backrest and folding chrome rear luggage rack, with Vespa valuing the accessories at $1220 fitted. An Assouline Vespa coffee table book, which has an RRP of $380, is also included.

Vespa says Australian supply of the anniversary model will be limited, although it has not confirmed how many examples will be allocated to the local market.
