Thirty-seven years on the world's roads and over three million sales: that's the proud boast of the two-stroke single-cylinder Vespa PX 150.
Now, there's yet another twist to the legend, with Vespa Australia announcing a limited-edition PX Touring version, which has chrome front and rear carry racks for additional carrying capacity and a "windscreen to deflect life's burdens".
Of course, the classic PX qualities traits are retained: the four-speed ‘twist grip’ manual gearshift, footbrake and spare wheel, and 150cc engine.
The PX 150 ‘Touring’ will go on sale in October 2015, with with less than 40 examples available in Australia. Price is $6790. Visit www.vespa.com.au
for more information.
Vespa only relaunched the PX 150 in Australia in 2011, but with Euro 3 compliance for the two-stroke engine and as well as forced air cooling and electronic ignition. Although it has electric start, the kick starter was retained for both aesthetics and practicality.
The chassis consists of link arm front suspension with coil spring and dual action hydraulic shocker, while the engine takes up the role of the swingarm with a dual action shock. Brakes comprise a 200mm front disc brake and a 150mm rear drum brake affixed to 10-inch wheels.
The Vespa PX 150 weighs 97kg and has an 810mm seat height, and perhaps the only clue that this is a modern-day vehicle is the contemporary instrument panel.
