Van der Mark signs with Yamaha

One of WorldSBK's stars will switch camps in 2017, moving from Honda to Yamaha

Former world supersport champion Michael van der Mark will make the switch from Honda's to Yamaha's official world superbike team in 2017, where he will ride alongside Alex Lowes.

Van der Mark will replace Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli at Yamaha.

"I'm very much looking forward to this new challenge with Yamaha," said van der Mark. "I could see the potential of the R1 during its first WorldSBK season this year and I'm convinced that with further development and the full support of Yamaha and the team I will have the right package to fight for the title next year.

"It is never an easy decision to leave a team and a manufacturer after so many years and successes, I will always remain grateful for the support received and I will give my maximum for the remainder of this season to get as many podiums as possible."

The Dutchman currently lies fifth in the 2016 WorldSBK standings, with round rounds remaining.

The 2017 WorldSBK title will begin at Australia's Phillip Island from February 24-26.
