The Australian motocross fraternity lost one of its most popular riders at 4.15am this morning, with Paul Broomfield passing away after severe complications from a recent bone marrow transplant.
Broomfield made a massive contribution to his chosen sport and, as well as a being a top flight rider, he was also an accredited high performance coach and managed the Australian team at the 2010 Junior World Motocross Championship in New Zealand.
More recently he was also the motocross editor at ADB magazine.
Broomfield began riding motorcycles at four on a Honda Z50, and he turned professional in 1998, riding for a number of distributor-backed teams in Australia.
Broomfield had a long battle with Aplastic anemia. After a German donor was found Paul underwent a bone marrow transplant at the end of last month in an effort to overcome the illness, but sadly the transplant was unsuccessful.
Paul is survived by his wife and children, and will be sorely missed.
Funeral details are as follows:
The family wants to celebrate his life, and therefore requests attendees turn up in riding jerseys, team shirts, etc to brighten up the day. Dress is strictly race spec!
