A company in Wisconsin called Scorpion has developed a DIY conversion kit for the Harley-Davidson V-Rod, but with two wheels out front – a la the recently announced Polaris Slingshot.
But unlike the part car, part motorcycle Slingshot, there’s no denying the V-Rod is obviously a motorcycle. The conversion is said to take only a few hours, without any frame modifications.
The company is confident it will find a market for the V-Rod kits – which will go on sale in America in 2015 – in much the same way as other trikes have: the stability factor being a key ingredient, especially for those who don’t wish to hold up a heavy bike.
If the V-Rod kits prove to be successful, Scorpion may look at extending the kits to Harley-Davidson’s touring range, and further afield – but it all depends on demand.
The V-Rod kits will sell for about $A5200, but the few parts not supplied with the kit will need to be purchased separately from a Harley-Davidson dealership to complete the installation.
Optional accessories will also come with the kits further down the track, including frame covers, bodywork add-ons, and lighting options.
