Russian sidecar manufacturer Ural has revealed an electric-powered proof of concept sidecar prototype of which a production version is almost certain to hit Aussie shores sometime soon.
Looking every bit the retro-styled machine we’ve come to expect from Ural, it’s powered by a two-year-old electric powerplant supplied by Zero Motorcycles.
Using a 19.5kWh battery pack, the motor is said to be good for 60hp and 110Nm of torque, though those credible output figures are required to propel the 373kg machine. Speaking of propulsion, the machine is said to be good for a range of 165km, assuming your cruising speed hovers around 105km/h mark, though Ural says the bike’s capable of speeds up to 140km/h.
Charging the battery fully flat to 95 per cent takes around 13 hours using the bike’s on-board 1.3kW charger.
Compared to the firm’s popular Ranger model, it’s almost 40kg heavier than the 749cc air-cooled flat twin, but it boasts almost 20 more horsepower than its petrol-powered counterpart and over 50 more newton metres of all-important torque. Overall dimensions remain more or less the same.
Ural Australia has a waitlist form on its website where people interested in purchasing an electric powered
