Updated Yamaha WR450F confirmed for 2027

Yamaha has given its iconic WR450F a decent overhaul for 2027 with engine, frame, and suspension changes

Yamaha has revealed an updated WR450F for 2027, with the brand saying there are major changes to the engine, frame and suspension.

Based on the championship-winning YZ450F motocross platform, the new 2027 Yamaha WR450F is confirmed for Australia, but pricing and availability are still to be determined.

Engine character is a main point of focus for the updated model, with the tune aiming for low- to mid-range power suited to off-road riding. There is a revised intake port design for linear delivery, while cam timing changes should result in more stable combustion. To further improve power delivery, Yamaha has increased the rear sprocket from 50 to 51 teeth.

Also new is the frame design, which features a revised downtube for improved stability and cornering performance.

Revised fork settings aim to improve front-end feel and boost rider confidence, while a new high-performance KYB rear shock features a new piston to improve damping force at low speed. The shock also has a hand-operated low-speed compression clicker for easier adjustment.

Other additions include new braking components, updated styling and bodywork, and a new honeycomb-pattern seat cover.

Elsewhere, it’s the same successful formula. The bike is equipped with electric start, a map switch, a lightweight lithium-ion battery and smartphone connectivity via the Power Tuner app. The app also offers an ECU lock feature.

The Yamaha WR250F is unchanged for 2027 but does get new graphics. Yamaha says pricing and availability will be announced at a “later date”.
