Moto Guzzi hasn’t even bothered to wait for the start of Intermot in Cologne next week to unveil some fairly major updates to its V7 retro machine.
The V7 has gone up an extra gear – quite literally. The 744cc, 90-degree air-cooled V-twin, which produces 50hp and 60Nm, now has an extra cog to make it a six-speed gearbox, while the clutch has been tweaked for a softer action. The engine has been tilted four degrees towards the front axle, and also lowered by 10mm. According to Moto Guzzi, this “solution” not only improves aesthetics but allows for more knee room, while riders should not be cramped: the footpegs are now 25mm lower.
Safety updates on the V7 II include anti-lock braking and traction control.
Like the current brigade, the new V7 II will be available in three versions: the Stone, Special and Racer. The trio will go on sale in Europe later this year, and we’re awaiting word on Australian availability. In the meantime, the local importer, John Sample Automotive, appears to be clearing the decks for the new arrivals, with the current Racer currently discounted to $15,990, with the Stone ($13,490) and Special ($13,990) also being priced to sell.
