BMW Motorrad has brought its enduring and dynamic sportstourer, the S 1000 XR, in for an update. The comfy yet agile machine, which is powered by a version of the inline four-cylinder engine at the heart of BMW’s S 1000 RR superbike, will for 2024 feature extra horsepower, improved ergonomics, a mild styling refresh, extra standard features, some new options, and a choice of three new paint schemes.
The 2024 BMW S 1000 XR’s inline four-cylinder now features “flow-optimised geometry of the intake channels and customized mapping”, the net result bumping peak power up by 5hp (4kW) to 170hp (125kW) at an unchanged 11,000rpm. Peak torque also remains unchanged, with a stonking 114Nm chiming in at 9250rpm.
The Shift Assistant Pro quickshifter has been optimized for even slicker and more precise gear shifting, while the rear suspension’s spring has been tweaked to offer “a more sensitive and comfortable ride”.
The BMW S 1000 XR’s seat has been completely redesigned to offer extra usable length and width, and to make the seat at practical as possible whether you’re touring two-up or carving up a race track. It’s now set 10mm higher too, giving a towering all-up seat height of 850mm.
Standard kit on the BMW S 1000 XR has been expanded to include BMW’s adaptive Headlight Pro, keyless starting, and a beefier 12Ah battery. Other features include daytime running lights and a USB charger.
Meanwhile, the options list has increased to offer M GPS Laptrigger and M Carbon wheels.
The 2024 BMW S 1000 XR will be available in three new colours – Blackstorm Metallic, Gravityblue Metallic, and Lightwhite solid paint/Motorsport – while the model also features a new rear section with motorsport-inspired side panels and air intakes, a new textured finish for its radiator cover, and a body-colour-matched front beak (previously black).
The 2024 BMW S 1000 XR serves as a base model for the up-spec BMW M 1000 XR; we’ll bring you more information on both models, including availability timing and local pricing, when it comes to hand.
