
The UK powered two-wheel market - motorcycles, scooters and mopeds - saw 16,754 registrations in March, 10 percent down on the same period in 2008.
The combination of new registration plates and improving weather has lead to March showing a much better performance than the 25 percent downturn suffered by the PTW market in February.
All categories of PTW except for the naked and supersport segments suffered declines in March.
Over the first quarter of this year, 26,973 PTWs were registered, a drop of 12.1 per cent over the first quarter of 2008.
That's not too far in front of Australia, which recorded 26,241 sales in the first quarter of 2009, but that figure also includes 3807 ATVs. Nevertheless, it shows that Australia punches above its weight on a per capita basis.
While the Kawasaki Ninja 250 is currently the highest selling bike in Australia, in the UK its big brother, the ZX-10R, is the industry pacesetter.
Honda was the leading manufacturer, followed by Yamaha and Kawasaki.
