Two more Aussies for Suzuka 8-Hour
Jamie Stauffer and Wayne Maxwell will return on a Honda to the world endurance showpiece, joining fellow locally based compatriot Josh WatersAustralian Superbike campaigners Wayne Maxwell and Jamie Stauffer will once again represent Dream RT Sakurai Honda team in the 2012 Suzuka 8 Hour world endurance race in Japan.
The duo competed for Dream RT Sakurai Honda and was in fourth position for much of the race until they were forced to retire in the final hour.
With some unfinished business to attend to, Maxwell is looking forward to the challenge of this year’s July 27-29 event.
“We are excited to be returning this year and are planning to go back and finish well,” he said. “We’ve been able to learn from last year and certain things will be improved, we are looking forward to getting over there to do some laps during testing.”
Stauffer said: “Last year wasn’t the greatest outcome for us, so this year we plan to improve on our times and performance and finish the race in one of the top spots. Wayne and I ride a similar bike and work well as a team so we are really looking forward to the race.”
Suzuki rider Josh Waters recently announced that he’ll be backing up on a Yoshimura Suzuki after finishing second last year.
Australians to have won the 8 Hour are Tony Hatton, Mick Cole, Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan, Daryl Beattie and Kevin Magee, while New Zealanders Aaron Slight and Graeme Crosby have also been successful.
