Where has the word ‘parity’ been hiding? I hadn’t heard it uttered in ages until a few weeks ago when the Aussie dollar threatened to break even with the American equivalent.
That eventually happened, with a fair amount of accompanying hoopla we might add.
Now parity is back again, with Motorcycling Australia announcing that two and four-stroke riders in the Australian Motocross Championship will be on an even footing in 2011, at least where capacity is concerned.
From January 1 neat year, the new rule will read:
Class Capacity two-stroke Capacity four-stroke
Pro Lites Up to 250cc Up to 250cc
Pro Open 255-450cc 255-450cc
That’s a departure from recent years, which was as follows:
Class Capacity two-stroke Capacity four-stroke
Pro Lites 100-150cc 200-250cc
Pro Open 156-250cc 257-450cc
Of the Japanese manufacturers, Yamaha and Suzuki still sell their 125 and 250 two-strokes in Australia, as does KTM. Husqvarna has a 125 two-stroke (CR125) in its line-up, too.
The 2011 Australian Motocross Championship will begin in Broadford (Vic) on March 6.
