The Suzuki-riding vanguard of Jake and Matt Moss finished first in their respective classes at the penultimate round of the Monster Energy Super X title in Sydney’s Parramatta last night.
Jake took out a drama-filled Open final on his RM-Z450, while Matt’s impressive form culminated with a victory in the Lites class.
The Quad challenge final format featured in the Open class saw four different winners: championship leader Josh Hansen (Kawasaki), privateer Dan McCoy (Honda), Billy Mackenzie (Kawasaki) in his first ever Super X event, and Jake Moss.
Jake eventually won on a countback from Mackenzie and Jay Marmont (Yamaha).
“It was so awesome to get the win tonight, especially with Matt winning too,” said Jake. “I was riding really tight all night, but everything just came together for me in the final.”
Jake has now moved into third place ahead of the final round in Brisbane on December 4. He’s on 275pts, behind Hansen (351) and Marmont (307), and ahead of KTM’s Tye Simmonds and Daniel Reardon (Honda).
Hansen had a rollercoaster evening, forced to race with a bent gear lever in the second of the quad challenge finals, and getting stuck in the back of the pack in the last.
The unforgiving Survival format in the Lites final saw the pack whittled back to five for the five-lap finale: Matt Moss, Josh Cachia (KTM), Lawson Bopping (Suzuki), Kade Mosig (Honda) and Ford Dale (Yamaha), with championship leader PJ Larsen (KTM) forced to withdraw with bike troubles to finish seventh.
Moss, Cachia and Bopping were the top three, followed by Mosig and Dale,
The championship lead has now been passed back to Moss, with Larsen only 5pts behind going into the final round.
