Rohan Tungate made a sensational start to the 2018 Australian Speedway Championship in Kurri Kurri, NSW on Saturday, January 6.
Tungate dropped just 1pt to 2016 Aussie champion Brady Kurtz in race five, and then went onto win the A final from Josh Pickering, Max Fricke and Kurtz.
Tungate was unstoppable in the A Final. Despite seeing the red lights when he held a commanding lead at the first attempt, he triumphed in the re-run to claim 18 out of a possible 19pts.
Meanwhile, Pickering won the B Final ahead of Jack Holder, the promising Jaimon Lidsey and local racer Mason Campton.
It was a disappointing start for defending champion Sam Masters, who finished eighth overall.
The Bikesales-sponsored round two takes place in Undera, Vic on Wednesday, January 10.
