Troy Bayliss Ducati Panigale V2 special edition revealed

The new special edition model celebrates the Australian rider's world championship success

Ducati is celebrating its long relationship with Troy Bayliss by releasing a special edition Ducati Panigale V2 complete with a unique livery and upgraded equipment.

The Ducati Panigale V2 Bayliss 1st Championship 20th Anniversary edition comes 21 years after the Australian rider won the 2001 World Superbike Championship for the Italian marque.

Featuring a special livery inspired by Bayliss’ championship-winning Ducati 996 R, the new model will be produced in limited numbers with an Australian ride away price of $27,489.

The livery bears the #21 race number used by Bayliss throughout his career, as well as a Shell logo and the Aussie rider’s autograph.

Graphics aside, the special-edition Panigale V2 also features high-end Ohlins suspension, an adjustable steering damper, a lithium-ion battery, single-seat configuration, sport grips, a carbon-fibre silencer outlet cover, and a two-material seat with double red stitching. The upgraded Panigale V2 weighs in 3kg lighter than the standard version.

In addition to the new features, the special Bayliss Panigale V2 maintains all the highlights of the base version. This includes the 955cc Superquadro twin-cylinder engine that puts out 155hp at 10,750rpm and 104Nm at 9000rpm, as well as a chassis based on a monocoque frame.

The bike also features a comprehensive electronics package that includes cornering ABS, a quickshifter, traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control and three riding modes. All of this is controlled via a 4.3-inch colour TFT dash.

The famous 21 race number is front and centre

The Bayliss and Ducati partnership is unique in the motorcycling world. The Australian won three world titles (2001, 2006, 2008) aboard Bolonga-built machinery. He also won 52 races and achieved 92 podiums with the brand. His chariots included the twin-cylinder 996 R, the 999 R and the 1098 R. Notably, Bayliss is the only rider in history to win in both MotoGP and WSBK in the same season (2006).

World Superbike Championship organisers are planning to pay tribute to Bayliss during round 5 of the season, scheduled for this weekend in Assen, Netherlands. The Australian champion will appear in a virtual press conference with Ducati Corse Sporting Director, Paolo Ciabatti. Assen was the circuit where Bayliss clinched the 2001 world title.

The Ducati Panigale V2 is a very fine sportsbike

Ducati will also mark the occasion with a special exhibition at the Ducati museum in Bologna titled ‘Troy Story: The Legend of a Champion’. It will feature the bikes ridden by Bayliss during his career.

The Ducati Panigale V2 1st Championship 20th Anniversary edition will be available in Australia and New Zealand from January 22.
