When we first saw TRON back in 1982, there was one scene that left an indelible mark on us -- the lightcycles. These futuristic motorcycles looked awesome back in the '80s, but how do they fare today? If you've got a spare $US35,000 ($39,500), you can buy one.
Parker Brothers Choppers out of Florida in the States will built five of these machines, each in different neon colour. And the lightcycles "being built for everyday street use" according to the company.
While electric or petrol powered engines are offered, it's the aesthetics of these vehicles that are really getting conversations going.
The design of the lightcycles is absolutely stunning, and the amount of engineering that went into them must have been staggering.
Those are hubless 22-inch rims on the bike, with tyres made by Hoosier, and though the riding position looks interesting (to be kind), these street legal vehicles will attract attention like no other bike ever created. Guaranteed.
At the rear of the bike there a back cover that opens up at the touch of a button, at which time a "neon glow that exits from the back of the bike to resemble the lightcycles colored light trail from the original game," says Parker Brothers Choppers.
And yes, you also get a TRON style helmet to match.
With a new TRON movie currently in the works, these lightcycles could become very desirable, though we're not sure how the lightcycle would go during a wintry blast down Great Ocean Road or through the Blue Mountains. Knee down action could be a little sketchy....
