Triumph to supply Moto2 engines from 2019?
That's the strong rumour out of Europe, with confirmation expected at the 2017 MotoGP season opener in QatarHinckley manufacturer Triumph will be the sole Moto2 engine supplier from the start of the 2019 season – that's the red-hot rumour doing the rounds in European media.
If the deal is indeed signed and sealed, with an announcement imminent, Triumph would take over from Honda as the Moto2 engine supplier – with riders moving from a CBR600RR-based four-cylinder engine to a triple of around 750cc and producing around 160hp.
Honda has been the engine supplier in Moto2 since 2010, when the new category replaced the 250cc two-strokes.
With the Japanese giant opting out at the end of its current contract, MotoGP rights holder Dorna cast out its net for a new supplier from 2019 onwards – with MV Agusta apparently its first target, which ruled out the project on cost grounds.
That's when Triumph entered the scene, with the new collaboration expected to be announced at the opening round of the 2017 MotoGP title in Qatar from March 24-26.
